So What Are These 60 Day Challenges About and Do They Work?

Sure I do keyword research usually. Sure I'm making an effort to make money on this site. What I really enjoy is writing. As a newcomer to Hub Pages I have been struck with how easily I can sit down, write about whatever I want and publish it. I can do it all in less than an hour or take longer if I like, and I don't have to worry about any deadlines. And the best part, people read it!

This freedom is something I have not known in the past and now I just need to learn how to harness it into an income.

Enter the 60 Day Challenge

When I first started reading about the 60 day challenge, I was a little lost. After reading about it an hour or so I find myself still lost, but thoroughly excited to participate! I believe this challenge could be exactly what I need to turn my passion into an income, but more importantly, to learn how to reach as many readers as possible.

The Gist As I Understand It

A group of Hub Page writers get together to support each other and combine efforts in promotions in order to increase everybody's traffic and income. The first 30 days, the team members write 30 articles each. Then the next 30 days are spent promoting these articles.

To be honest, I'm not quite sure how the others are going to go about the promotion process and I'm really hoping to learn some new tricks. That's one of the main reasons I wanted to do the challenge, as a learning experience. However, for some strange reason, I'm kind of excited to go about promoting other people's articles.

Hopefully after this challenge I will be making some money, but I feel that there are others in the challenge that are probably better positioned to get much more significant increases in the money they make. It would be awesome to help them achieve that, and hopefully get myself in a position where I could get an increase like that in the next challenge, assuming there is one. I think it would be a huge boost to (hopefully) make a difference in somebody's life, however small that difference may be.

A Learning Experience

It is my hope that this will be a great learning experience for myself and anybody else who wants to follow this hublog. I intend to keep a very solid record here of successes and mistakes. I feel that will be the best way to learn, and besides, I don't really embarrass easy. If I mess up I will have learned, and hopefully you will have too.

My Personal 60 Day Challenge Goal

As I mentioned before, my main goal is to learn.
Secondary goals include:

  1. Significant increase in my hub count (I am starting at 10)
  2. Significant increase in my traffic (as you will see below, that shouldn't be too hard)
  3. **Help as many of the rest of the team achieve their goals as I can**
  4. I have made no money thus far, so I'd like to make a dollar just to see it can be done. Once I have done that, then I know all I have to do is work hard and increase it more and more each month.
  5. Make this hublog a valid learning experience for anybody who cares to read it.

Topics I'll Be Covering For The Challenge include:

  1. Marketing
  2. Writing
  3. Online Business
  4. Rare Books
  5. Programming
  6. Astronomy

Getting Started

So here we are, just a few days away from the start of the challenge. In the meantime I will probably do some keyword research. Check back here once we get started and hopefully we can learn a lot together!

Aug 27th

Much to the chagrin of my fellow 60dcers I have only now published my first article of the challenge. Unfortunately, I had a small family crisis over the past week and will now have to play some catch up. Not too worried at this point though. I still think I have plenty of time to get 29 more articles written.

Now I will get back to it.

Aug 28th

Still playing catch up I have just published the sixth article of my 30. I'll be back tomorrow with a few more.

Aug 31st

I was able to get a couple of more articles in today, bringing my total to 8. I'm still not exactly sure what we will be doing after the first 30 days, so I'm just trying to make informative articles and see where it goes for now.

Sep 9th

I have posted one article today, bringing my total to 11 with only a few days to go. However, I have been very busy behind the scenes and have another 8 articles ready to publish, and the rest just needing a final edit. I should be in good shape to finish the 30 in time, I just need to find time to publish all of them.

As we are coming to the close of the first 30 days I'm beginning to wonder what the plan is for the following 30 days. I have been trying to work hard to make sure I have much more time available for the 2nd 30 days. This should be an adventure.

Sept 13th

Published another 8 hubs today. I have the rest written and will hopefully have them all published by Wednesday. That is my deadline anyway since I have no clue when the first 30 days officially started.

Well Jrock it looks like you are on your way! I am almost certain you will make your first dollar doing this challenge. I am excited to be working with you and following your progress. By the way, on the first 60dc I only had about 3 or 5 hubs done and I was able to see an income. So I am sure you will too.

Good-Luck to you and make sure you add "online writing goals" as a tag for this hub-log so your hub will be included into the hub-log count. Plus it helps all the team to find you.

Conserted effort from all of us will mean that we all achieve what we want to achieve. The difficult part I reckon is starting. You have achieved that! Selflessness is the means to a situation where you feel good in yourself and you will find that others will reciprocate, if not pre-empt your assistance. Sunforged has been good enough to start a second 60DC. I am sure he will benefit substantially from his selflessness.

I look forward to see your progress and working with you. I start on this 60DC from the same position as you - a newbie challenge participant, although I do have more experience than yourself in the way Hubpages can work. If you need any assistance I will try to assist.

Thanks for the support! I'm sure I will have questions along the way, so it's good to see so many willing to help. I actually made my first dollar yesterday. I noticed this morning, $3 actually. The challenge has not even started yet and one goal achieved!

Welcome to hubpages, Jrock. You are brave to undertake such an endeavor so early in the game. And wise. I did the first challenge after being here for two months. It was hard for me. I am hoping to use what I learned previously as a jumping off point. Good luck.

Namaste.

Welcome to hubpage Jrock and I am glad that you are joining the challenge. It will reduce your learning curve by a long shot and by the end of the challenge you would be a successful newbie. Wish you all the success!!

It's good to find another expert Hub challenger to look up to. I'd like to introduce myself. I'm K. Alto, Psy.D and I'm joining late... I'm a little ashamed. But all the same, good luck to you!

Welcome to Hub Pages, Jrock! Welcome to the 60 Day Challenge! It's going to be fun watching and helping you learn. I was right where you are back in April. I was eager and able to write lots of hubs, with no knowledge of how or where my traffic found me. You will learn so much. The thing is not to worry about it for the first 30 days, and follow the advice of Sunforged, Shaz and others who really did well the first time around.

I worried too much and got myself overwhelmed. Stay eager, and don't worry, be happy! You will really succeed if you stay focussed!
